“I have created you with great capacity. Your heart can hold many of the things of God. The only way you will be able to walk in the full capacity I have given you, is to let nothing compete with your pursuit of our relationship.

Pursue me as your Father. Continually seek me as a son. Keep me as the one thing of your heart.

One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,
to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple. ~ Psalm 27:4

but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her. ~ Luke 10:42

Guard your secret place with Me. If I am the one thing of your heart, I will make room for the many things I have given you. But, if the many things are what you hold first, they will not make room for Me. Eventually, it may take one year or ten, but at some point you will find yourself holding the many things of God, but not holding God.”

What is written above is a word I received as I was praying for someone I dearly love. But it is not for him alone. It is for all of us who know God and carry the things of God in our heart. Our relationship with our Father is everything. If we are not vigilant, we will find ourselves seeking Him only as it relates to the many things that we carry, not for the one thing that is necessary. Him. His Father heart for us as His child. Our intimate relationship with the One who gives us breath. Knowing and loving Him deeper, experiencing the fullness of His love for us. Offering our hearts in complete devotion to Him. Letting Him Father us. Everything else can wait, must wait, while we spend time making Him the one thing of our heart.

Father, may I never fill up on the many things so much that I neglect the one thing that is necessary. Help me lay down anything that is taking your place, even the good things of Your Kingdom. Draw me near, into the secret place with You, and let me hear Your Father voice speak over me. May I crave it enough to make it the one thing my heart holds above all other things.
