I know why she kissed His feet

Luke 7:36-50

That story, the one about the woman with the alabaster jar of perfume, blows me away every time. It’s not so much because she reminds me of me, although she does. But so does that pharisee guy.

Today, it’s more that Jesus reminds me of Jesus.Continue reading “I know why she kissed His feet”

be great

“At that time the disciples came to Jesus and said, “Who is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” …And He said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” –  Matthew 18:1, 3-4

Something in us is so prone to the desire to be great, lured by the idea of more, better, greater. So gullible to the lie.Continue reading “be great”

don’t be a trader

“Once when Jacob was cooking a stew, Esau came in from the field exhausted. He said to Jacob, “Let me eat some of that red stuff, because I’m exhausted.” … Jacob replied, “First sell me your birthright.” “Look,” said Esau, “I’m about to die, so what good is a birthright to me?”… So he swore to Jacob and sold his birthright to him.” – Genesis 25:29-32

stewEsau was hungry, so he traded away the blessing. He would have received twice the inheritance as his younger brother, but he gave it away for a temporary pleasure.

What do we trade away?Continue reading “don’t be a trader”

uncovering our unbelief

“So He was not able to do any miracles there, except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them. And He was amazed at their unbelief.” – Mark 6:5

And I marvel at the power of unbelief, to be able to hinder the miracles of God. To my knowledge, scripture mentions nothing else that causes God to be “not able”.Continue reading “uncovering our unbelief”

the One who sees me

hidingSo, full-time has gone to part-time and I find myself in a familiar place of needing God to part a sea. Or at least open a door. It’s a good place to be. Stretching, in a sometimes-I-think-I-might-throw-up kind of way, but good. Forces you to figure out what you really believe about God. To pass the time, I’ve been reading.

“When the water in the skin was gone, she [Hagar] left the boy under one of the bushes.  Then she went and sat down nearby, about a bow shot away, for she said, “I can’t bear to watch the boy die!” So as she sat nearby, she[wept loudly.”

“Then God opened her eyes and she saw a well of water. So she went and filled the skin with water and gave the boy a drink.” – Genesis 21:15-19

In the dry places, absent of what is needed, God provides. He may need to open our eyes to see it, but His provision is there.

in the shadow of God

conferenceThere were over 4500 people in the room. Plus me. I didn’t know anyone there except Jesus. That was my plan – drive two hours to be alone with Him in a crowd. Kari Jobe led worship and Christine Caine brought the word and all of that was very enticing, but really, I was there to meet with Jesus. It’s true, I could have met with Him anywhere, without even leaving my house. But sometimes, there’s just something about the going to Him that matters to me. It was the shaking off the heaviness, getting up and going that I needed.Continue reading “in the shadow of God”

what we can do

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I’ve waited to respond to the recent decision of the Supreme Court concerning gay marriage. First, I wanted to see what others in the Body of Christ are saying, while at the same time seek the voice of God on the issue. I know, I know. It should be obvious what God has said. He is very clear about both homosexuality and marriage. But I needed to hear His voice on more than that. I wanted Him to speak into how He wants us, the Church to respond. How He wants me to respond.  I knew we couldn’t change what had been done, but I also knew there must be something we can do. Something I can do.Continue reading “what we can do”
